Lasix is a diuretic of quick action and belongs to derivative sulphonamides. Lasix increases excretion of potassium,
calcium and magnesium.The diuretic effect of the medicine could be experienced in 1 hour after peroral use; the
maximal effect of the medicine is reached in 1-2 hours after taking.The duration of the diuretic effect is 6-8
hours.The medicine is generally used for treating the following diseases:
- edematic syndrome of various genesis (e.g. associated with chronic cardiac failure, hepatocirrhosis ,
portal hypertension syndrome, nephrotic syndrome );
- renal failure,;
- acute left ventricular failure (cardiac asthma, pulmonary edema);
- brain edema;
- edemas caused by burns;
- arterial hypertension (including some forms of hypertensic crisis);
- artificial diuresis.
Lasix is used on the empty stomach. The initial dose for adults with mild edematic syndrome is 20-80 mg.The medicine shows best results if taken 2-4 days a week.
The initial dose for adults patients with arterial hypertension is 80mg/day.In case of insufficient effect of Lasix, some other hypertensive medicines are prescribed in addition to it. Lasix may reduce your attention, so be careful while driving or performing some potentially hazardous tasks.
