Nexium – proton pump inhibitor
Nexium is the first proton pump inhibitor presenting pure isomer; other analogical medicines are just isomer mixture. Nexium is a highly effective medicine which is widely used for the treatment of such diseases as:
gastroesophageal reflux,
erosive reflux-esophagitis long-term supporting therapy for preventing relapses in patience with cured esophagitis,
- symptomatic therapy of gastroesophageal reflux,
-Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibacterial therapy),
- treatment of duodenal intestine associated with Helicobacter pylori;
- prevention of peptic ulceration relapse associated with Helicobacter pylori.
After peroral use Nexium is absorbed in the small intestine and gets into blood. It is then transported to the action spot of parietal cells of mucous coat of the stomach and through diffusion is accumulated in the lumens of secretory canaliculi. Here Nexium is transformed into active form of sulfenamid, which makes its binding with mercaptan groups of cysteine. This leads to inhibition of secretion of hydrochloric acid in stomach. Patients who has been using this medicine for a long time should be under the care of a physician.
