Keftab is a first generation antibiotic. It is a bactericidal medicine and works by destroying cell wall synthesis of the microorganisms. It is resistant enough to gram-positive microorganisms. Keftab is a wide specter antibiotic. Keftab (Cephalexin) is mainly used for treating upper and lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, acute pneumonia, empyema and lung abscess); urogenital infections (urethritis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, endometritis, epididymitis, gonorrhea, vulvovaginitis,etc.); ENT infections(sinusitis, angina, otitis media, pharyngitis), skin and soft tissue infections (furunculosis, abscess, phlegmon, pyoderma, lymphadenitis, lymphangitis,etc.); bone and joint infections (including osteomyelitis). The dosage of the medicine is adjusted individually for each patient depending on the type and severity of the infection. The common dose for adults is 1-2 g a day. The maximal dose is 4 g a day. The dosage of Keftab (Cephalexin) for children depends on the age. The maximal total dose for children above 6 is 4 g a day taken within 4 times. The treatment course for infections caused by streptococcus is 10 days. Keftab is to be used with food or milk to avoid stomach disorder.
