Doxycycline – a broad spectrum semisynthetic antibiotic
Doxycycline has a bacteriostatic effect at the expense of suppressing of causative microorganism protein synthesis. It is active for treating diseases caused by aerobic gram-positive bacteria. It is well absorbed and penetrates into blood from gastrointestinal tract in a few minutes after taking. Food intake does not affect the absorption of Doxycycline. The medicine is well distributed into all tissues and liquids in a body. The protein-binding rate of the medicine is 80-95 %. Then 40% of the medicine is excreted with urine in an unaltered condition, the most of it is excreted with excrements at the expense of gall secretion. Doxycycline is used for treating infectious inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to Doxycycline, including ENT infections, gastrointestinal infections; purulent soft tissue and skin infections (including acne); urogenital infections: gonococcal and non- gonococcal ureteritis (gonorrhea),primary and secondary syphilis; epidemic typhus, brucellosis, osteomyelitis, etc. The daily dose of Doxycycline for adults may vary from 200 to 600 mg depending on the etiology of the causative microorganism.
