Biaxin – an antibiotic for the whole family
Biaxin is a semisynthetic antibiotic which has a broad spectrum action. It is effective against gram-positive (staphylococcus, streptococcus, coryneformic bacteria) and gram-negative ( (meningococcus, hemophilic bacteria, campilobacteriosis, helicobacter pylori and others) bacteria, some anaerobes ( bacteroids), intracellular microorganisms (mycoplasma, clamydia, etc.), mycobacteria (except V.tuberculosis) and toxoplasma.Biaxin is quickly well absorbed after taking; it penetrates into body tissues and liquids and excreted from kidneys. It is subject to biotransformation in liver. Clarithromycin is specially inteneded for treating respiratory tract infections, ENT (ear, nose, throat) infections (including whooping cough), skin and tissue infections, clamidiosis, atypical mycobacteria (including in AIDS patients); Biaxin is also used in a complex therapy of duodenal and gastric ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori. Clarithromycin is taken by mouth. The medicine is to be swallowed whole with some water. The dose for children above 12 and adults is 0,5-1 g a day (once or twice a day); the dose for children younger than 12 years old is 7,5-15 mg per 1 kg of body weight a day.
