Augmentin treats the following bacterial infections: upper respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, lung abscess), ENT infections(sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis media), biliary infections (cholangitis, cholecystitis), enteric infections (dysentery, salmonellosis), urogenital infections and pelvic organ infections (pyelonephritis, pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, cervicitis, salpingitis, salpingo-oothecitis, tubo-ovarian abscess, endometritis, bacterial vaginitis, septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, pelviperitonitis, simple chancre, gonorrhea), skin and soft tissue infections (erysipelas, impetigo, recurrent dermatoses, abscess, phlegmon, wound infection), osteomyelitis, endocarditis, meningitis, sepsis; peritonitis, post-surgical infections, infection prophylaxis in surgery. Amoxicillin is taken by mouth right before meal. The dosage depends on the body weight, age of the patient, severity of the infection and kidney functioning. Patients with renal or hepatic failures need some dosage adjustment (reduction of the doses or extension of the time between doses).
