Revatio – a good solution for treating hypertension
Revatio is a drug prescribed for treating arterial hypertension. The active ingredient in Revatio is sildenafil citrate. The common dose of Revatio is 20 mg 3 times a day. Larger doses of the drug increase the chances of getting side effects from the drug which include loose stool, facial flushing, muscle tightness and visual disturbances. Revatio is not recommended to be taken in combination with nitrates and antifungal medicines (e. g. ketoconazole, itraconazole). Patients who use bosentan, rifabutin, carbamazepine, barbiturates, nevirapine, efavirenz, rifampin or phenytoin may need dose adjustment of Revatio.The safety of Revatio in patients with bleeding disorders and stomach ulcers has not been studied. Vitamin K antagonists (coumadin or warfarin) in combination with Revatio may cause nosebleeds. Patients with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease should not use Revatio. In rare cases patients who took Revatio experienced sudden decrease or loss of sight in one or both eyes. Revatio is a PDE5 inhibitor and rare it may cause erections lasting more than 4 hours. In such cases it is highly recommended to contact a doctor.
